Between trips, he managed to fulfill orders in Venice and Padua (1732, the Basilica of Santo), which was his hometown. In 1704 he married Angela Carriera, sister R. Carriera.

Italian painter of the Venetian school of the period of the late Baroque and Rococo. Born in Padua. He studied at the Lombard P. Pagani. 1700-1701 years the artist spent in Rome, studying the tradition of a late-Gothic paintings and works by Peter Paul Rubens, Francesco's Solimena, Luca Giordano. A follower of the art of Sebastiano Ricci. Unlike artists Jacopo Amigoni and Sebastiano Ricci painter Giovanni Antonio Pellegrini used the warm soft tones of the palette. In the drawings Pellegrini dominated by the halo of light, barely visible outline.

Creative activity as Pellegrini of Venice "the artist's virtuoso" has been associated with the execution of orders of the European courts. Worked in England (1708-1713), Germany (1713-1716), the Netherlands (1716-1719), France (1720-1722), as well as in Vienna (1725), and Munich (1736-1737). The wizard almost all the European cultural capitals brought Giovanni Antonio Pellegrini fame. Between visits, the artist has managed to execute orders in Venice and Padua.

In the painting "the Marriage of Duke William and Maria Luisa de' Medici," from a series of 14 paintings of allegorical content, were commissioned by the Bavarian Duke Wilhelm Joseph castle Slashem (1713-1719, Munich, Alte Pinakothek), combined historical and allegorical characters. The picture is filled with bravura movements. The artist places the characters in elaborately crafted theatrical mise-EN-scene. Graceful poses of some of the figures are echoed by smooth movements of others. Pellegrini was able to effectively orchestrate the composition. He built it in a frieze, as in this painting of the castle Slashem, or placed figures, following the Baroque principle diagonal, as in another of his famous painting "scaevola before Porsenna" (Venice, Museo Correr), which, undoubtedly, well knew Giovanni Battista Tiepolo, working on the cycle panel for the Dolfin Palace in Venice. The figures in his paintings do not look contemplative-abstract, like Sebastiano Ricci, they are always in a live dialogue, backed by expressive, full of pathos postures and gestures.

Giovanni Antonio Pellegrini, like Richie, Amigoni and other artists often painted pictures on mythological subjects. In his painting "Venus" (London, private collection) the goddess of love and Cupid is depicted on the landscape for an outdoor canopy curtain. Golden-pink hue of the body of Venus and a warmer, reddish-brown — Cupid, the bright spots of the green velvet canopy and landscape fused into a pleasant, mild color. Pointing to Cupid gesture of the goddess and the whole scene, like seen in the theater, stressed look stagy. Picturesque skill of the artist is revealed in the writing is shrouded in a light haze of the landscape in the depths of the composition.

Great fame of Giovanni Antonio Pellegrini brought works made during his stay in England, where the artist painted easel works and portraits, he created decorative paintings in the palaces, in which he was helped by Marco Ricci. Was awarded the title of member of the London Royal Academy; in 1733 became a member of the Paris Academy. In 1736-1737 the artist has performed the honorary order the painting the ceiling of the Mississippi gallery of the Royal Bank in Paris, which glorified the wise king's reign, establishing the Bank (the painting has not survived). A self-portrait of the artist Giovanni Antonio Pellegrini (1716-1717) is in the Uffizi gallery in Florence.
