Description of the artwork «I have become Death, the destroyer of worlds»
"We knew the world would never be the same again. Some laughed, some cried, most were silent. I remembered the lines from the Bhagavad-gita. Vishnu is trying to convince the prince to do his duty and, to impress him, takes his multi-armed form, saying, "I have become Death, the destroyer of worlds." I suppose we were all thinking along these lines at the time.
These are the words of Robert Oppenheimer, the father of the atomic bomb. Sometimes I rewatch a passage with these words, and it makes me cringe every time. There's a universal sorrow on his face.
