In his work, the artist often turns to the sacred artistic traditions of former eras: Old Russian and Byzantine icon painting, Romanesque frescoes, Gothic stained glass, etc. Steadily rising above any imitation of the canon, the artist plunges into the exploration of the multidimensional plastic codes of ancient images. The movement from the surface to the depths, to acquiring the inner artistic form is not without an active interpretation of the lessons of the Russian classical avant-garde, especially such masters as Goncharova with her appeal to folk art and Filonov with his "form invented".
In the early cycles of works ("White cycle", "Post tenebras lux"), each object or architectural object is transformed into a self-valuable "hero", emitting inner light, existing only thanks to this light in an unreal space. In the paintings of later periods, color becomes the most expressive and important artistic means, acquiring the quality of an independent full-fledged image (hence the cycles-dedications to individual colors, such as Praise of Blue).
In general, the maximum generalization, brevity of images, hieratic, lack of literary, flatness of the image is characteristic of Kislitsyn's work,
