Спенсер Уотсон

George Spencer Watson (George Spencer Watson; 8 March 1869, London – 11 April 1934, London) was an English portrait painter. Belonged to the late romantic school, and sometimes worked in the style of the Italian Renaissance. His works are kept in various museums and galleries in the world.
He studied at the Royal academic school since 1889, and exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1891. Watson won the silver medal of the Royal Academy in 1889 and 1891 and the Landseer scholarship (Landseer Scholarship) in 1892. He was a member of the Royal Institute of oil painters (Royal Institute of Oil Painters) in 1900, Royal society of portrait painters (the Royal Society of Portrait Painters) in 1904, a candidate of the Royal Academy in 1923 and a member of the Royal Academy in 1932.
In 1909 he married Hilda Mary Gardiner, dancer and pantomime performer, follower of the actor Edward Gordon Craig (Edward Gordon Craig). They had a daughter, Mary Spencer Watson (Mary Spencer Watson, 1913-2006), who became a sculptor.
In 1923, Watson bought the estate of Dansai (Dunshay) in the hills of the island of Purbeck, after spent a vacation in the nearby Sanaga.
The artist died in London 11 April 1934, and in the same year, the Society of fine arts held a memorial exhibition. There is a monument to him in the North lobby of the Church of St. James, Piccadilly, London.
