Andreevich Bronnikov

1827−1902
Since childhood was fond of drawing. Father gave him his first painting lessons. After his father's death sixteen is sent from a passing train to St. Petersburg, hoping to enter the Academy of arts. But the doors of this institution were closed for Bronnikov. Then he becomes an apprentice in the engraving workshop of xylographs E. E. Bernardskogo. On the capable young man drew the attention of the famous sculptor Peter Klodt. He procured him a free ticket to auditor drawing classes of the Academy. Fyodor Bronnikov has successfully passed all classes and got a silver medal.
But only after petition of the patrons of the artist, in Shadrinsk in 1850 agreed to pay him out of his bourgeois society, he becomes a student of the Academy where he studies with Professor of historical painting at Markov. In 1853 F. A. Bronnikov graduated from the Imperial Academy of arts. For the painting on the topic "the mother of God joy of all who sorrow" received a Gold medal, the title of artist and a business trip to Italy.

In 1854 he went abroad pensioner of the Academy and settled in Rome. Before traveling abroad, Fedor Andreevich visited his hometown. In Rome, via Vittoria he had his own Studio. In Italy he worked: he painted portraits of wealthy citizens, Italian landscapes, the streets of towns and villages, genre scenes from Italian life, paintings on themes from the history of Ancient Rome and the middle Ages. In Italy it remains, and after the expiration of the trip, as poor health requires a warm and soft climate. Bronnikov wrote of paintings on themes of ancient Greek, Roman history, and also on themes of contemporary Italian folk life.
In 1863 Bronnikov brings to Russia a large canvas: "No, read the death sentence to Senator Tracey Peta". For this work he received the title of Professor of historical painting.
In 1870, the Academy awarded him a gold medal for the painting "the Poor family that run the apartments."
The trip Home was a turning point in the works of Fyodor Bronnikov. Here he made friends with Wanderers, and under their influence wrote a number of genre paintings: "the Poor family kicked out of the apartment," "the Old beggar" (Tretyakov gallery), "the Golden wedding" and others. In 1873 Bronnikov joins the society of traveling art exhibitions. The record of his appointment signed Kramskoy, Myasoedova, pervym, Shishkin, Klodt, Savrasovym and others. Along with the best Russian artists Fyodor Andreyevich he exhibited his work. Among them — "Sick of the Catholic monastery", "Abandoned", "the Artists in a reception of the rich". The latter is very popular with spectators and experts. A well-known critic Vladimir Stasov wrote: "One of the most remarkable paintings of a traveling exhibition is a small painting by G. Bronnikov, "Artists in reception of the rich", ... one of the most successful small comic scenes expressed by the painting, the work of the parts is excellent..."
In 1878, Fyodor Bronnikov creates a wonderful canvas, "Cursed field", the picturesque tragic story about the brutal massacre of slaveholders over the slaves patricians. "This picture is a sample of the amazing effects of composition, color and pattern... full of all the truth, all said, all convicts," wrote V. V. Stasov.
In 1870 and 1880-ies Fyodor Bronnikov also writes paintings on scenes of contemporary Italy.
Bronnikov awarded the order of St. Anne III degree. He became a commander of one of the Italian orders. At the Academy of Arts in St. Petersburg had all the ranks that are given only to those, the true merit of which is well recognized, and therefore gave him not only the title of academician and Professor, and even he was elected an honorary member of the Academy.
Fyodor Bronnikov died 1 (14) September 1902 in Anticoli-Corrado, Rome, is buried in Rome non-Catholic cemetery of Testaccio. Having lived many years in Italy, he never forgot his Fatherland, his native city. This is evidenced by his will to transfer the Shadrinsk more than 300 paintings, sketches, drawings, and 40 thousand rubles for the base here art school. The desire of the artist was executed only in the Soviet era. Now the town has a school. And bequeathed work became the basis of the art Department of the Museum.
