Description of the artwork «Star Age Cycloids»
DIGITAL picture, based on my illustration from the early 1980s, for an article in the popular science magazine "Quantum". The work was created in a vector graphics program.
The picture is interesting because of the geometric-mathematical system of constructing flat curves with straight lines tangent to it, so I call the series as "straight - curves". And the method of such constructions in geometry, called a funny term "Mathematical embroidery. But most importantly, it creates a wonderful effect of style "Op Art", when the flat two-dimensional construction of a curve, cycloid, suddenly perceived as an incredible, three-dimensional volumetric object, almost miraculously, grown simply from the intersecting straight lines. Which is fascinating and inspiring.
