Huang Yongping (born Huang Yong Ping, born 1954 in Xiamen, China, lives and works in Paris, France) is a modern artist. Working with diverse traditions and media, Huang Yongping creates provocative works that urge the viewer to revise everything - from the idea of art to national identity and today's history. One of the main figures of the Xiamen Dadaism (a group of Chinese artists interested in creating a new Chinese cultural identity by combining the traditions of modernism and Taoism), Huang Yongping revises the accepted definitions of history and aesthetics. Sculptures and installations of the artist usually juxtapose traditional objects and images with modern ones. The artist gained fame for his large-scale work. Such, for example, as a realistic, life-size sculpture of a tiger on the back of an elephant.
