Allora and Calzadilla (eng. Allora & Calzadilla) - creative duet of artists Jennifer Allora (Jennifer Allora, 1974, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA) and Guillermo Calzadilla (Guillermo Calzadilla, 1971, Havana, Cuba). Allora and Calzadilla have been collaborating since 1995.
Authors approach visual art as a series of experiments aimed at exploring such ideas as authorship, nationality, borders, democracy, globalism and a consumer society. Their hybrid works are often a mixture of sculpture, photography, performance, sound and video. Drawing on historical, cultural and political metaphors, artists touch upon the complex associations associated with the object and its meaning.
Allora and Calzadilla created a series of works devoted to a critical analysis of how power, militarism, and war are encoded by means of sound. The works are devoted to various ways in which music is used throughout history, as well as the creation of new forms of musical expression.
