Comedonia

I painted my painting "Komidonia" more than twenty years ago, while studying at the senior courses of the Ryazan art school. It refers to the period of my first experiments in the style of ornamentalism, which I began to develop in 1996. In those years, Viktor Korsakov was the teacher of composition in my course. Seeing for the first time the paintings in an ornamental solution, he did not interfere with my experiments, on the contrary said to me: "Dare!" At that moment I tried myself not only in painting, but also in word; He wrote a series of stories in which he also applied the methods of ornamentalism. The term "Comedonia" was coined by me and refers to the mysterious names of my paintings. At that time, I called several of my works similar words and phrases, which I seemed to hear in childhood or in my dreams.
The plot of the painting "Comedonia" is dedicated to love. These are events from my real life. Student time is the time for falling in love. In the picture, I portrayed myself with my lover. The action takes place on a rainy autumn evening. At the horizon, in a smoky mist, the contours of the urban landscape dissolve. Rain and autumn golden leaves-patterns fall from the sky with an ornamental mesh. Lovers stand against each other, in their hands they hold an umbrella that hides them from bad weather. What is this meeting? Lovers meet or break up? Each viewer will decide for himself. The umbrella and its cane are here a symbol of the base, the central axis, in love like birds with their paws, hold on to it like a twig. How fragile this foundation is and how easy it is not to hold it, and only by holding it you can not get into bad weather. This picture is about trying to keep love, in any bad weather ...
From 2000 to the present, the painting "Komidonia" is in the collection of the Museum of the History of the Youth Movement in Ryazan.
