Kanash artist and teacher.

The combat awards of P.M. Merkuryev: medal "For Courage"; medal "For Military Merit"; Medal "For the Defense of Stalingrad"; medal “For the Liberation of Prague”; medal "For the capture of Berlin"; medal "For the victory over Germany in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945." In 1985, by decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR P.M. Merkuryev was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War of the 2nd degree. He began to practice painting professionally after retirement. He created genre paintings, and still lifes, and landscapes, and portraits. A member of the Union of Chuvash artists (since 1993) designed the Kanash, Yantikovsky and Yanshikovo-Norvash folk museums. Excellence in public education of the RSFSR, labor veteran, Honored Worker of Culture of the Chuvash Republic (1995). He took part in the annual exhibitions of Chuvash artists and zonal exhibitions "Big Volga", the All-Russian exhibition dedicated to the 40th anniversary of the Victory over Nazi Germany in Moscow, the 2nd All-Union Festival of Folk Art, the exhibition "Stars of Victory", the final exhibition "Salute of Victory" dedicated to the 60th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. He died on November 18, 2001. Works are stored and exhibited in the Kanash Museum of Local Lore; Yanshikovo-Norvash historical and memorial museums; Chuvash State Art Museum and in private collections.
