Figure 8454
World War I
Austro-Hungarian mountain shooters controlled the highlands along the border of the Empire.
Many facts of waging war in the mountains on the border with Italy are widely known.
On both sides, heavy, debilitating work was carried out to develop tunnels towards the enemy in order to lay charges and undermine them. These works had to be carefully guarded.
Numerous patrols controlled the terrain, clashed with the enemy, observed enemy reconnaissance, misled the observers of the opposing side.
The mountain shooters knew the terrain well and successfully predicted the place of concentration and the place of the alleged deployment of observers and the conduct of reconnaissance activities in terms of study - listening to determine the conduct of mining.
