Mikhail
Sergeevich Kramskoy

Russia • 1908−1989
Born and lived most of his life in the village of Verkhnopenie. After graduating from a parish school, he attended an art school in Kharkov for about a year. For several years he lived in Moscow, engaged in window dressing. He fought, was wounded, awarded orders and medals. Returning to his native village, he worked as the head of the collective farm club. His passion for painting falls on the 1970-1980s. In his paintings, Kramskoy reflected various aspects of the world of the patriarchal village, its holidays and everyday life, carefully depicting the details of a bygone life, whether it be details of a folk costume or a scene of field work.
