Maria
Georgievna Kazmina

Russia • 1904−1980
Born in the Arkhangelsk province in a family of Pomors. She graduated from grade 4 village school. Having married, she moved to Spassk-Demensk, Kaluga Region, after 1945 she lived with her family in Klaipeda. She worked as a dressmaker. She began painting at 64, having received a sketchbook with brushes and paints as a gift from her son-artist. When I worked on the painting, it closed so that it would not be seen. I didn’t use anyone’s advice, I wrote directly on the canvas, without preliminary preparation. Favorite subjects: bazaars, weddings, festivities, holidays. She created about 80 paintings, many of which she presented.
