Description of the artwork «Petals in the Forest»
Monotypes which are essentially a non repeatable painted print. The subtle layering of the inks create a play within the work that is unlike any other art form. As I layer the inks new color and tone is created and the resulting print has a unique quality very different from a painting.
I work from Light to dark applying ink to a plate and manipulating it using rags, a dabber, sticks, cotton buds, pieces of card, or a host of other found objects to get a unique mark, each color is created using a separate plate, I make linocuts and stencils to increase the movement within the piece and to advance the visual impact.
My work is inspired by the world in which I live, the Irish countryside, my friends and neighbors, my emotions and memories, the joys and sorrows of being alive. I am constantly experimenting with different ways to make marks within the work.
