Swimmer.

Painting, 2021, 50×40 cm

Description of the artwork «Swimmer.»

The elusive transition of shades into each other (sfumato). His mastery of applying the finest layers of paint to produce luminous tones. Light passes through his paintings as if through coloured glass, penetrating down to the ground layer, which reflects it, giving the impression that the figures themselves are emitting this light. From the soft substrate of the dense shadow emerge colors distinguishable only by the presence of light. Within this unity of shadow an endless series of subtle adjustments are made to harmonize the intensities inherent in the different tones from the lightest shade of yellow to the darkest shade of blue. Things shiny and transparent, figures veiled, naked bodies from under light fabrics worn on them, the tiniest variety of colors of pebbles under the surface of transparent waters, bodies transparent, bodies luminous, rays reflected, bodies shining, clouds. Dynamic Sketch. Taking technique to an extreme, getting an impossible blur. Nothing can be discerned in the chaos, but the eye notices a hidden, undeveloped potential form trying to become a figure. Trace it with a needle, and turn the page and reveal it with a clear line. The perspective is divided into three parts. The first one contains only the outlines of bodies. The second deals with the reduction of colors at different distances. The third is about the loss of clarity of bodies at different distances. As one moves further away, the image gets smaller, the colours become dimmer and the detail diminishes in sharpness until all three disappear at the vanishing point. The fourth type is aerial perspective, due to the effect of the atmosphere on colors and other aspects of visual perception. Any transparent body surrounded by surface is clothed with shadows and light. Besides, shadows have different qualities of darkness, for they are deprived of different quantity of light rays. It is the initial shadows that cover the bodies to which they are adjoined. The initial shadows are formed on the object itself, and the derivative shadows are cast by the object through the air onto other surfaces. The rays of the sun, passing through the air, can only act in a straight line. Every luminous body has in itself a hidden centre, from and to which all the lines formed by the luminous surface run. Particles of water do not move with the wave, but only rise and fall as it passes through. 6.09.2021. To the picture. First stage. Drawing on the canvas 40x50 with pencil N. 7.09.2021. Made the underpainting with acrylic Dutch. Has begun with hair of a figure, still at a stage of drawing has defined that Leonardo names the latent centre of a luminous body. I painted the hair, taking into account that all lines go to this hidden centre, alternating light and shade. Red in own shades and more pink in places of alternation of lines going to the hidden centre of a body, has made an underpainting of a body. I have made an underpainting of the background taking into account the alternation of light strokes with dark ones going in the direction of the hidden centre of the body. Sub-maintaining the water made parallel and vertical strokes. 8.09.2021 Covered the shadows on the body, using squirrel brushes, with mixtures of violet varnish, Neapolitan yellow, lemon. 9.09.2021 Using 6 squirrel brushes, felt rag, chicken feather, clear paints and touch-up clear varnish, added light to body. 10.09.2021 Using 1 squirrel brush and 3 chicken feathers, translucent paint, retouch varnish, solvent, worked through the hair cap of the figure, and some background. 11.09.2021 Using 1 squirrel brush and 1 chicken feather, translucent paints, retouch varnish, solvent, painted the background around the figure, and some greenery. 12.09.2021 Filled a two-liter jar with water and poured sand. Painted with squirrel brush with translucent paint. When I painted twigs, turned off the light. I added purple varnish to twigs. In water - more solvent than retouching varnish. 13.09.2021 Using 4 squirrel brush, two chicken feathers, retouch varnish, a little solvent, translucent paint, softened the sky, drew some water, varnished the places left from underneath, and added light in foliage, and made some lunges in red cinnabar (imitation), twigs with added violet varnish. 14.09.2021 Using a squirrel brush, added bulbs in water. More solvent, a little touch-up varnish. I think this is the end of the "Bathing Lady" painting.
Style Leonardism.
