Description of the artwork «Coral»

This embossed pewter Coral artwork was inspired by a snorkelling trip in the Bay of Islands, New Zealand.

Hand-embossed pewter metal coral artwork, featuring a lot of texture and depth, handpainted with touches of copper, bronze and gold.

To me, coral reefs are an invitation to look deeper at nature as a whole.

It is surprising that coral reefs make up less than 1% of the ocean, but provide a home to around 25% of all the world’s marine life. Over 4,000 different species of fish rely on coral reefs!

Corals are animals, not plants and need sunlight to grow…

They are hugely beneficial to humankind as they act as a barrier during storms. Coral reefs play an important role in protecting coastal communities from storms and water surges. They act as a buffer and are able to slow down water flow as well as prevent coastal erosion.

Coral reefs also clean the water they’re in

I was inspired to create a coral artwork as even though we can’t see coral regularly, and they live below the surface, they provide food and protection for humanity.

It’s an invitation to make conscious choices about food packaging and supporting sustainable packaging as part of our daily living to protect our source of life.

This piece was mounted on 100%cotton, museum-grade matt board, and framed to the highest quality standards with black Italian Bellini moulding.

The framed artwork measures 35.5cm x 61cm
