Description of the artwork «"Guardians of the Forests of the Urals"»
The depicted characters are solely a figment of the author's imagination. Nevertheless, their choice was based on Slavic and Finno-Ugric mythology. The Bear (Osh) is one of the key characters in the mythology of Finno-Ugric people in general and Komi people in particular. The Lynx was considered by the ancient Slavs as an "amulet of their land", and the amulet of the whole Rus. An owl is a nocturnal predator, and is therefore associated with the spirits of the lower (dead) world, but on the other hand it can act as a faithful helper, and is often a generic totem. The depicted amulets are historical decorations of the peoples of the Urals in the "animal style".
