Description of the artwork «Winter Sun.»
National identity, textured painting, vivid color contrasts - that's what distinguishes the landscapes of Alexei Isupov. More than once the artist painted scenes of rural life, rustic views, horses. The painting "Winter Sun" is one of them. Look closely at the bright sun, the soft snow with traces from the sled runners, the dark silhouette of a horse. It's all suffused with air and conveys a sense of approaching spring. The artist admires Russian nature. The landscape is painted easily, masterfully.
Among Isupov's teachers were Konstantin Korovin and Viktor Vasnetsov. A classmate of the artist at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture Vasily Meshkov admired him: "I, as you might say, was born on the palette, and always, looking at the works of Alexei Isupov, with some good envy thought: no, how can we all be like him. I, for example, felt that I couldn't do it that way.
"The Italian press called Isupov "the carefree maestro. For health reasons, the artist moved with his family to Rome. He lived in the Eternal City for 30 years. He painted Russian landscapes from memory.
"The work of Alessio Isupov is the art of a painter who knows all the joy and power of color," the Italian Michele Biancale, no less talented master of the brush, said of the artist's works. Isupov left a rich artistic legacy, and bequeathed to his wife to return to his homeland the works of his Italian period. The will was fulfilled.
