A magistical 943A.D crucifixion icon executed in a mixture of both encaustic and tempera techniques, composed by a combination of Coptic, Melkite and Byzantine artistic mastery- possibly[ written at Saint Catherine's Monastery (by a team of three masters, as it seems to feature two more names on its reverse either than the 'Higpo'), and commissioned by Tsar Peter l of Bulgaria] for Saint Monk Ivan Rilski and the Rila Monastery as a gift during the completion and establishment of the monastery as a major religious center in Bulgaria.
