Yves Tanguy (FR. Yves Tanguy; January 5, 1900, Paris — January 15, 1955, Waterbury, Connecticut) is a French American surrealist painter.

Born in the family of a retired naval officer, native of Brittany. He began his career as a merchant Mariner. Inspired by the paintings of Chirico. In 1925 joined the surrealist movement. In 1927 he opened his first solo exhibition. In 1940, together with his second wife, American artist surrealista Kay sage, moved to the United States. In 1948 Yves Tanguy became a citizen of the United States. Died of a stroke. In 1961, amounting to a complete catalogue of the works of Tanguy, Kay sage committed suicide (poisoned).
