In dialogue with Baudelaire: Matisse, Rodin, Rouault...

Ausstellung 20 Oktober 2021 − 16 Januar 2022
Andrei Cheglakov Foundation holds an exhibition "In dialogue with Baudelaire: Matisse, Rodin, Rouault..."The event is timed to coincide with the 200th anniversary of Charles Baudelaire's birth.

The centerpiece of the exhibition was Flowers of Evil by Odilon Redon, Henri Matisse, Auguste Rodin, Georges Rouault, Henri Cartier-Bresson and Leonore Fini. In addition, contemporary artists Vasily Vlasov, Vladimir Klavikho-Telepnev and Kira Matisseen have created their works especially for the exhibition. Also for the first time, the exhibition will show 14 illustrations to Flowers of Evil by Russian artist Sergey Chepik, who emigrated to France in 1988.

The publication of Charles Baudelaire's collection Flowers of Evil in 1857 shocked his contemporaries, the poet was fined for insulting public morals, and some of his poems remained banned until 1949. The exhibition features various editions of this collection in the "artist's book" genre, the livre d'artiste, with illustrations by famous masters, as well as graphics and photographs, created under the influence of Baudelaire's poetry. The project is not primarily about illustrations, but about the artists' interpretation of images and expression of their own experiences.
