The Beyeler Foundation, in cooperation with the Museo Nacional del Prado, presents an exhibition
"Goya.".
The Foundation succeeded almost the impossible, they were lucky enough to get "Macha Dressed" Francisco Goya (1746-1882) for a major exhibition of the Spanish artist. A total of 75 paintings, 50 drawings and 50 etchings by Goya are on display. For the first time rarely exhibited paintings from Spanish private collections are shown together with key works from the most prestigious European and American museums and private collections.
Goya's creative career spanned more than 60 years and spanned the period from Rococo to Romanticism. He depicted saints and criminals, witches and demons, opening the gateway to realms in which the boundaries between reality and fantasy are blurred. In his art Goya shows himself a keen observer of the drama unfolding between reason and irrationality, dreams and nightmares.
