Victor Vazareli. In the maze of modernism

Exhibition September 26, 2018 − January 13, 2019
Victor Vazareli - the main representative of European op-art (optical art) and a key figure in French post-war art, whose creative roots go back to the Bauhaus of the 1920s. The retrospective at Shtedelev Art Institute presents the work of the artist for six decades. This is a complex, labyrinth modernism, balancing between avant-garde and pop culture.

Exhibition“Victor Vazareli. In the maze of modernism " represents more than a hundred works of the founder of op-art, since the 1960s. However, the artist worked in different styles and created a bridge between early European modernism and the avant-garde of the 60s. The exhibition offers a look from the beginning of the career of Vazareli, who embodied modernism in all its complexity, like no other.

Works by world institutions such as the Pompidou Center in Paris, the Tate Modern Gallery in London, the Solomon Guggenheim Museum in New York and the Michele Vasareli Foundation sent work to the exhibition.
