Frans Hals and the Modernists

Exhibition October 24, 2018 − February 24, 2019
At the exhibition"Frans Hals and the Modernists" more than 80 paintings are presented, of which 50 are taken on credit. They demonstrate the influence of Hals on the artistic life in the XIX century. The artist's museum tells this story very convincingly.

Frans Hals was rediscovered by modernists 200 years after his death. He was admired and even adored by artists such as Edouard Manet, Max Lieberman and Vincent van Gogh. They were impressed by his easy strokes and rough style of painting, which turned into impressionism.

This exhibition shows the enormous influence of Frans Hals on these modernists. For the first time, paintings of the 17th century painter are shown along with a reaction to his work by artists from other eras.
