Portraits of Lorenzo Lotto

Exhibition November 5, 2018 − January 10, 2019
National Gallery in London reveals symbolism and psychological depth portraits of Lorenzo Lotto. The first exhibition of this kind in the UK brings together many of the best portraits of the Renaissance master, covering his entire career and collected from collections around the world.

These include such masterpieces as the Bishop Bernardo de Rossi (1505) and the monumental altar The alms of St. Anthony of Florence (1540/42) from the Basilica of Santi Giovanni e Paolo in Venice, first arrived in the UK

Being one of the greatest portraitists of the Italian Renaissance, Lorenzo Lotto presented an impressive middle-class cut, depicting clergy, merchants and humanists. His models are presented in compositions filled with symbolism and imbued with great psychological depth.
