Signs of modern art of Odessa
Exhibition November 29 − December 10, 2018
The Central House of Artists in Kiev presents an exhibition "Signs of modern art of Odessa"dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Odessa branch of the Union of Artists of Ukraine. The main idea of the exhibition is to present the work of bright personalities, defining various spheres of modern art in Odessa. The exhibition contains works of painting, graphics, sculpture and decorative arts.
The main trend of the art space of modernist art in Odessa is the affirmation of an individual sense of the world. In the 1970s, in spite of the overwhelming ideology of the totalitarian regime, the non-conformist artists created the New Odessa School.
Graphic artists turn to the traditional techniques of original graphics, a variety of types of printed graphics, mixing techniques of various kinds. The direction called at the end of the twentieth century “after-postmodernism” is becoming increasingly important. In Odessa's sculpture, images of both classical mythology, national folklore, and their rethinking have become topical. Arts and crafts have no tradition and school, like painting. Odessa masters received knowledge in various educational institutions of Ukraine and abroad.
