Most of the work of Dreaming affects various aspects of education - this topic occupied one of the main places in the writings of the leaders of the Enlightenment.

The picture “The Damned Child” (beginning of the 1760s) as a whole is a clear illustration of the fruits of bad education. It was first presented by the author at an exhibition in the Salon of 1765, where it provoked a lively response from the public and the press. Many of the sharpest minds of the time, among which was Denis Diderot, did not ignore the plot of the picture and its artistic merit, and the abundance of details found the most varied interpretation.
