In the gallery Lehmann Maupin is a personal exhibition of recent paintings by Gilbert and George "
Bearded paintings". 35 monumental canvases are represented in the galleries of Seoul and Hong Kong. The massive works depict artists in symbolic beards made of beer foam, flowers and barbed wire, interspersed with street signs, graffiti and ginkgo trees. The artists offer an allegorical look at the transformation and upheaval of the urban environment. Some features of appearance or clothing offer an interpretation of both spiritual and secular, past and present.
Gilbert and George (1943, Italy and 1942, United Kingdom) were educated at the Munich Academy of Art, Germany, and the Oxford School of Art, United Kingdom, respectively, as well as at St. Martin's School in London, where they met in 1967. Around the world are their numerous exhibitions. They received many awards from various art institutes.
