Pierre Bonnard. Memory color

Exhibition January 23 − May 6, 2019
"Memory Color"- This is the first major exhibition of works by Pierre Bonnard in the UK since the time of the beloved show in Tate 20 years ago. It will allow new generations to discover Bonnard’s unusual work with color and will surprise those who think they already know it.

Pierre Bonnard was born in 1867, as was Henri Matisse, one of the greatest colorists of the early twentieth century. He preferred to work from memory, creatively capturing the spirit of the moment and expressing it through his unique handling of color and the innovative sense of composition.

The exhibition focuses on Bonnard's artworks from 1912, when color became the dominant theme, until his death in 1947. It presents landscapes and intimate domestic scenes that capture moments of time - when someone just left the room, the meal just finished, an instant view from the window or a peek at another person.
