Neverland"- the first solo exhibition of the artist from Brooklyn, Sam McKinniss.
Once the painting died. Death was not tragic, the painting was slowly fading away and its vitality was overshadowed by new-fangled monsters: photography and the Internet. But, like all fairy tales or TV shows, no one ever dies. Renewal, revival, rehabilitation ... everything is an integral part of the genre.
Sam McKinniss is a twenty-first century artist. He got rid of all the drama of the past centuries and got rid of historical quarrels about the primacy or lack of legitimacy of paintings.
If portraiture has always been associated with power, then McKinniss from Peyton’s time is the first artist who convincingly combined “the unusual, precious and durable painted picture” with an ephemeral celebrity, creating a fairy tale in oil on canvas of our present time.
McKinniss turned into a neo-magical realist, combining "factual and supernatural", transforming the reality of the Internet era into his image of our modern "Neverland".
