Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum in Madrid
explores creativity the legendary artist Balthazar Klossovski de Rola (1908 - 2001), known under the pseudonym Balthus.
The artist is considered one of the great masters of art of the XX century and one of the most unique creators of his time. His diverse and ambiguous work, which was equally praised and reviled, completely contradicted the movement of avant-gardists. His special pictorial language combines the influence of old masters and some aspects of surrealism. Balthus paintings combine tranquility with extreme tension, reverie and mystery, eroticism and innocence.
The exhibition is organized jointly with the Beyeler Foundation.
