From academy to nature. Forms of landscape painting in Central Europe in the years 1860-1890

Exhibition March 8 − June 16, 2019
The purpose of the exhibition"From Academy to Nature" - present the main centers for teaching landscape painting, which influenced the image of nature and natural motifs. In the second half of the XIX century, under the influence of the Barbizon school, approaches to the depiction of nature were softened, landscape painting was gradually reformed and reintroduced into art academies.

The most important training centers for the Czechs were Vienna, Munich, Prague and Paris, and later - Budapest. The curators of the exhibition want to compare the works of the main "ambassadors" of landscape painting of that period in the context of the main centers of art. This also applies to the complex national situation and geographical position of the modern Czech Republic and Slovakia, where it is necessary to observe the development of the line of landscape painting, its stylistic approaches and thematic orientation among authors associated with Vienna, Munich and Paris.
