Burl Marx: Art, Landscape and Botany

The Brazilian Museum of Sculpture and Ecology (MuBE) presents the exhibition "Burlet Marx. Art, landscape and botany". The exhibition includes about 70 works, including drawings, paintings, sculptures, tapestries, design samples, landscape projects, records of botanical views and scientific expeditions made throughout life.

Roberto Marx Burlet, one of the greatest landscape painters of the 20th century, also worked as an architect, painter, sculptor, designer, botanist, ecologist and activist.

Roberto Burlet Marx was born in 1909 in Sao Paulo. He studied painting in Berlin, where he became interested in landscape architecture. In 1949, he purchased an estate of 350 thousand square meters for his collection of plants. In 1985, he presented it to the Brazilian government, and in the same year founded his landscape company. He spent a lot of time in the Brazilian forests, studying their flora. 30 plants named after him. He died in Rio de Janeiro in 1994.
