About the exhibition
The inhabitants of Palmyra, an ancient Syrian caravan city, decorated their graves with distinctive funeral portraits. These vivid images of exquisitely dressed men, women, and children, often accompanied by inscriptions with the names of local families, highlight the cultural exchanges taking place in the eastern Mediterranean.

Thisexposure is a combination of sculptures from the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek collection in Copenhagen and historical prints and photographs from the Getty Research Institute.
