Yoke Mäkilä. Landscapes of consciousness

Exhibition February 9 − March 31, 2019
Marina Gisich Gallery presents an exhibition “The yoke of Mäkilä. Landscapes of consciousness ".

Yarko Mäkilä (1952) is a Finnish painter and sculptor who lives and works in Helsinki. He was educated at the School of Art and Design at the University of Helsinki and at the Finnish Academy of Arts, where he later worked as a teacher.

Mäkil’s ability to combine media images with mythological themes has made him one of the most significant artists of the Finnish postmodern. For the past 40 years, Jarko Mäkilä has been widely known internationally. His paintings and sculptural works are exhibited in museums and galleries in Finland, America and France, are demonstrated at major international art fairs. The works of the artist are represented in the collections of many famous art museums.

The exhibition presents large-scale paintings of Yarmo Mäkilä. The plots of these works are scenes from the life of adolescent boys who are on the verge of growing up. Autobiographical in essence, these pictures "speak" about universal things - good and evil, depressing loneliness and revive memories and emotions associated with childhood.

The exhibition is organized in partnership withgallery forsblom and is supported byInstitute of Finland in St. Petersburg and the instagram blog about the northern art “NORD KUNST”.
