Harry Fonseca. Coyote resigns

Exhibition May 19, 2019 − January 5, 2020
Exhibition "Coyote resigns»Focuses on the recurring figure of Coyote - the deceiver, werewolf and narrator, able to move unnoticed between different worlds.

This exhibit explores the complexity of Harry Fonsek's work in the context of the modern world, in which new freedoms and old prejudices often exist side by side. The artist uses his work as a means of self-knowledge, a means of navigating various aspects of his life and identity at a time when ideas about indigenous peoples are often driven by external forces, including commercial markets, tourism and historical clichés.

Fonsek played an important role in reforming native art thanks to its proprietary blend of traditional images, modern experience, bright colors and shapes. He sought to expand the definition of American Indian art and destroy the expectations and stereotypes that had long limited it.
