Views of India: Drawings by British Artists of the 18th and 19th Centuries

Exhibition March 2 − June 10, 2019
Drawings on thisexhibition talk about the landscapes of India. They were made by British artists who went there hoping to find new and "exotic" subjects. As these figures indicate, the history of Britain’s interaction with South Asia is complex. It covers a range of motifs that range from trade and mutually beneficial cultural exchange to violent imperial conquests.

The works of professional artists George Chinnery, Thomas Daniel hang next to the drawings of such experienced, albeit amateur artists like Colonel George Francis White.
