Solidarity and privacy

Exhibition January 29 − May 19, 2019
«Solidarity and privacy»Tells the story of the art of African-American artists with a special focus on abstraction from the 1940s to the present. This complex story is woven from discussions about how to represent “blackness”, social struggles and changes, as well as global migrations and diasporas.

The exhibits are taken from the collections of Pamela Joyner and Alfred Juffried and consider the abstraction, widely understood as a significant political focus, rather than a stylistic preference. Abstract art embodies the possibility of individual freedom and autonomy, even within the framework of larger social identities.
