Based on traditional Japanese painting, science fiction, anime, and pop culture, Murakami's work includes paintings, sculptures, and films inhabited by the mutated characters of his own creation. His iconoclastic individualism continues the non-conformist legacy of Edo Eccentrics, a group of eighteenth-century Japanese artists who built a powerful imaginative world filled with bizarre and emotional images.
"Gyatei²" reveals many variations of interrelated images, each permutation and combination gives rise to a new meaning.
