Engravings of Albrecht Durer from the collection of the Kharkov Museum

An exhibition is held in the Khanenko Museum in Kiev Engravings of Albrecht Durer from the collection of the Kharkov Art Museum. The exhibition presents more than 60 works of the German Renaissance genius and his followers.
Dürer was the first artist who worked simultaneously on two prints' techniques - on wood and on copper, introducing cardinal technical and artistic innovations. The author embodied in the engraving deep philosophical ideas, managed to convey the beauty of the world and a variety of fantastic plots.
The exhibition presents: woodcuts from the series “The Life of Mary” and a copy of Durer's contemporary, Marcantonio Raimondi, made in engraving with a chisel; title page of the cycle "Apocalypse"; rare incisive engravings belonging to the early period of the artist's work - “The Sea Monster”, the enigmatic “Four Witches” and “The Walk”; series “Small Passions”; portraits of intellectuals belonging to the late period of his work. The project allows viewers to compare woodcuts from the poetic cycle “The Life of Mary” with copies of Marcantonio Raimondi - after all, the conflict between Dürer and Raimondi was the first copyright court in history. Raimondi was forbidden to put Durer's monogram, but copying was not forbidden.
