Aftermath: O'Keefe and Modern Painting

Exhibition "Aftermath»Unites a select group of artists whose work echoes the work of Georgia O'Keefe. The artists represented at the exhibition share her interest in the image of what Jerry Saltz calls "objective and subjective at the same time." In their art, the physical world is not subject to the imagination and does not conquer it, but on the contrary, they are constantly in the game.

The artists gathered here explore a set of formal qualities, first proposed by O'Keefe and the modernists of her circle. This is not an exhibition that pays tribute to "Santa Fe style" or combines her paintings with paintings by other artists based on simple iconographic proximity. Rather, the exhibit explores how characteristic O'Keefe formal innovations in terms of scale, space, use of color and framing remain relevant for artists working today.

This exhibition is intended for visitors oriented towards artists who seriously appreciate - from a very unique point of view - contemporary painting and give a fresh look at O'Keefe's contribution to the history of landscape painting and abstraction.

The exhibition presents works by Melissa Tom, Emily Joyce, Mary Windford, Corey Drit, Leslie Smith, Jeffrey Gibson and other contemporary artists.
