Kay Nielsen. Enchanted vision

The vivid and often haunting interpretations of the classic tales by Kay Nielsen are among the most famous book illustrations of the 20th century. Demonstrating over 45 dramatic watercolors, drawings and illustrated books, "Enchanted visionNotes the significant achievements of the Danish artist in illustration, emphasizing some of his works in the field of theatrical design and animation.

Nielsen was born in Copenhagen and was educated in Paris. He received international recognition for his exquisite illustrations, in particular, his masterpiece "To the east of the sun, to the west of the moon" (1914). Unlike some of his contemporaries, Nielsen often focused on the melancholic or dramatic elements of fairy tales, creating memorable visual sequences reflecting themes of love, passion, loss and death.
