Tucson Museum of Art: Travel

In the 18th and 19th centuries, artists traveled to the “Grand Tour”, traveling around Europe, the Middle East and beyond, to study art and depict archaeological ruins and natural landscapes of the region.
In the United States in the 19th century, artists were also attracted to extensive destinations in America and the West to portray new and exciting lands and establish their careers with their photos, paintings and drawings.
