Chris Ofili

Exhibition December 1, 2017 − October 28, 2019
Chris Ofili is known worldwide for his richly layered work, which combines the images and influences of various sources, such as comics, hip-hop, Zimbabwean cave paintings, biblical scenes and films about the blpploitoy era of the 1970s.

After moving to Trinidad in the mid-2000s, Ofili increasingly turned his attention to the landscape and mythology of Trinidad to reflect more on his long-term view of history and identity. His latest paintings were animated by figures and scenes from folklore myths and, perhaps, revise the trails of modernist painting by artists such as Henri Matisse and Paul Gauguin. Over the past few years he has also experimented not only in painting, but also in the process of assembly work.
