Mine Okubo: Retrospective

This exhibition is a widely constructed retrospective of Okubo’s paintings and paper works, covering seven decades of the artist’s career. The works of art belong to the collections of the museum, and some of the paintings are from the Okubo family and a select group of collectors.

Starting with the portraits of the internment camp, which formed the basis of her book “Citizen 13660”, to the paintings “The American Scene” (ca. 1930s) and her commercial illustrations for the magazines “Time, Life and Luck” in the 1950s Many of the paintings and drawings have not been on display for 60 years.
