A fresh look at one of the major European artistic movements is offered by G
allery of the Foundation Pierre Arnaud in the Swiss lance. The exhibition
"Symbolism. Magic water" showcases Gustave Moreau, Félicien Rops, Auguste Rodin, Ferdinand Hodler, Gustav Klimt, Felix Valloton and Ernest Beeler.
The deliberate narrowing of the focus of the exhibition to the theme of water in the imaginations of symbolists only emphasizes a new perspective on these artists to assess their achievement more objectively. Water has inspired painters, sculptors, poets, musicians, cabinetmakers, glassblowers and ceramists.
A variety of works in the exhibition reminds us that the symbolism was a common European destination, bringing together different artists in the quest the submission of material, forms of intangible reality. In addition, Symbolism inspired artists for a very long period: so the first work of the great Ernst Biler, presented in the exhibition, created in 1898, while the latter was written in 1930.
The exhibition is divided into six thematic sections in accordance with the themes of the first exhibitions of the symbolists in the 1890-s: dream, ideal, myth, legend, allegory and a paraphrase of the great poets.
The Exhibition "Symbolism. Magic water" in the gallery of Pierre Arnaud will be on until May 21. Then the works of the Swiss artists represented there will move to Belgian NAMUR and will be available to public at the Museum of Félicien ROPS from June 26 to September 24.
