Gabriel Orozco: rotating objects

Exhibition April 17 − August 11, 2019
Noguchi Museum presents an exhibition "Gabriel Orozco: rotating objects".

This installation of ten works by Gabriel Orozco (b. 1962), seven Roto Shaku and three Ob scrolls complements the exhibition exhibition “Changing and Unchanging Things: Noguchi and Hasegawa in Post-War Japan”.

Orozko’s works created in Tokyo in 2015 present a modern parallel with Isamu Noguchi and Saburo Hasegawa’s efforts to create contemporary art in which traditional craft cultures of Japan were developed.

Roto Shaku are made of standard length of the bar, which the artist wrapped in colored ribbons. Using his proprietary geometry, Orozco establishes an opposition between numerous traditions of abstraction and apparent abstraction: a decorative pattern, practical drawing of signs (as for measuring) and theories of signs, symbols and structures that underlie most of modern western painting.
