Gallery of Modern Art Hauser and Wirth presents the exhibition
"Lorna Simpson. Darkening". This is the first personal exhibition of the artist in New York.
At the exhibition, visitors will see a number of new large-scale paintings, where Simpson once again returns and relies on themes and motifs that are fundamental to his work: studies focused on the nature of representation, identity, gender, race and history.
For over 30 years, Simpson's powerful work has entangled viewers on an ambiguous web, using collage techniques using materials found often from pages of vintage Jet and Ebony magazines. In The Darkening, Simpson continues to link the dichotomy of configuration and abstraction with extensive and fascinating tables that include spliced photos and fragmented text, abstracted beyond comprehension.
