Christine Musnyug: Broken Earth

The paintings of Kristin Musnyug stem from an interest in the complex interactions between people and nature, including how our concept of nature shapes our actions toward the earth. On-site painting is crucial to its process. Paintings are products of a close experience of a place. For Musknug, the process of creating landscape painting has less to do with creating an objective visual record and everything connected with the exploration of ideas, fears and fantasies that we associate with nature. The work is based on her interest in the scientific view of nature, as well as on the role that nature plays in the human psyche.
