Rafael Soriano: Heads

Exhibition June 20 − September 30, 2019
Art Museum of the Americas presents an exhibition "Rafael Soriano: Heads"organized by the William Paterson University Gallery.

This exhibition features more than 20 significant works of Cuban-born artist Raphael Soriano (1920-2015), one of the largest Latin American artists of his generation. Soriano stands apart from his peers, who mainly focused on formalism and gestural abstraction, because he developed his own visual dictionary based on abstraction, but immersed in a metaphysical sense. While Soriano began his career with creating geometric abstractions, he became known for his bright and biomorphic images that resemble surrealism. This change of style is often associated with the expulsion of the artist from Cuba in 1962 and his emotional reaction to this experience.
